It’s that time of year again…sleigh bells, snow and marriage proposals! December happens to be the most popular month for marriage proposals. This is no surprise since there is so much about Winter that’s romantic! From spending time with family and loved ones snuggled on the sofa, sharing a mug of hot mulled wine by a roaring log fire to long winter strolls amongst frost covered trees. If this is your other half’s idea of heaven, then December might just be the perfect month for you to pop that special question and today we’re here to give you a helping hand along the way!

Choose the ring

Choosing the ring is no easy feat and is one of the most important parts of the engagement. Engagement rings aren’t exactly cheap and let’s remember this is something that is going to remain on your partner’s finger for life so you want to get it right. If you want to do things the traditional way and choose the ring yourself, then don’t go out and choose the first diamond ring you see. Put a bit of thought into it. It’s not all about the price. Choose what you can afford but keep your partner’s style in the forefront of your mind. Are they classic, more modern, or vintage? This will help you narrow down the vast amount of engagement rings on the market. If you’re buying a diamond engagement ring it’s also important to do some research on the type of diamond you’d like starting with the four C’s - Carat, cut, colour and clarity. Get yourself familiar with these terms and their meaning and the whole process won’t be so daunting when you come to purchasing the ring.

If you aren’t one to follow tradition, then perhaps you’d like to give your partner the option of choosing their own ring.  Nowadays, most jewellers will allow you to choose a ‘temporary’ engagement ring which can then be exchanged to anything your partner desires. This means you can still surprise your partner with the proposal! Win win!

Choose the moment

Now that you’ve purchased the ring you’ll want to think about how you are going to propose. Some people like to keep the ring on their person until the perfect moment arises, whilst others like to be a tad more prepared. If you’re the latter of the two, take note. This is going to be a special moment shared between you and your partner for life so it’s best to spend a little time thinking about it unless you’re the spontaneous type! Does your partner embarrass easily? Perhaps it’s best not to propose in a room full of people! Oppositely, this might be something that wouldn’t phase your partner in the slightest so a proposal with the whole family around the dinner table on Christmas day might just be the way to go!

Choose your location

Chances are if you’re planning to propose in December, your partner loves snow so unless you plan on proposing at one of your favourite restaurants or at home with family, why not venture outside and take advantage of one of the most romantic seasons. There’s nothing more romantic that taking a woodland stroll surrounded by snow and beautiful scenery so do some research of your local area. Perhaps you want to propose in your favourite park or the place you first met so think about what time of day will be best to visit and what spot you’re going to choose. Think about what you’ll say

The best proposals come from the heart so don’t worry too much about this. There’s no right or wrong way to propose but it’s good to have a rough idea of what you’d like to say to your other half. After all, it can be pretty nerve-racking!
