Christmas -markets

It’s that time of year again. The Christmas lights are on, the shops are playing Christmas songs and people are beginning to get jolly (ish). What better time to propose? Christmas is such a romantic time of year and if you and your other half are a fan of cosy candlelit dinners, frosty Winter walks and mulled wine then this might just be the season to get engaged. If you’ve been thinking of popping the question this season, and you want to do something that’s just that little bit special then stay tuned. Our list of top Christmas markets in Europe might just inspire you:

PRAGUE CHRISMTAS MARKET: 02 Dec 2017 – 06 Jan 2018

We have to start off with one of the most impressive Christmas markets in Europe – Prague. Based in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square this Christmas market offers plenty of carol singing, hearty food and local drinks. With plenty of historic landmarks you’ll be able to indulge in some winter strolls pre-Christmas Market – you might even find the perfect quiet spot to pop the question before you celebrate with some mulled wine and join in the festivities.

PARIS CHRISTMAS MARKETS: throughout Dec 2017

Of course, we had to mention Paris. Voted as one of the most romantic cities in the world it’s no surprise that so many couples flock to this beautiful city over the festive period. There are actually quite a few Christmas markets in Paris to choose from but our favourites have to be the Mail Branly Christmas market – situated within view of the Eiffel Tower (we can’t think of a more romantic way to propose with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop). Another favourite is the Montmarte Market. With a cosy village vibe, 30 wooden chalets situated under a snowy Sacré-Couer this is one of the most perfect locations for a Christmas Market. Expect lots of hot meals, mulled wine and traditional gifts.

St Gallen is one of several Swiss cities to host a spectacular Christmas market. Named the “City of Stars” by the people of St Gallen throughout the festive season, it’s no surprise with 700 stars twinkling above the city’s romantic old town. Let’s also not forget the huge Christmas tree in the abbey district decorated with a whopping 18,000 lights. Stretching all the way from Waaghaus along the Bohl and all the way to Market Square with around 70 huts and stands you’ll be sure to find some Christmas gifts when you’re finished proposing.

Brussels is a relatively new Christmas market but it is fast becoming a popular destination over the festive period. The market is referred to as Plaisir d’hiver or ‘Winter Wonders’ – this alone probably makes you want to visit. With a total of around 240 stalls there’s something for everyone from art and crafts, handmade decorations, and of course lots of food and drink. If that’s not enough there are also toboggan slopes, a huge Ferris wheel covered in twinkling lights and an ice rink for the active amongst you who like activities.

And that’s our list. You’d be surprised at the amount of great weekend deals available for a lot of European cities over the festive period so definitely keep this in mind if you’re thinking of proposing this Christmas. If you happen to find any good deals… do let us know too.
