Venice -edit

So, you’ve found the person you want to share the rest of your life with and now you’re thinking about popping that all important question. That decision is huge on its own but now you need to consider some other things…how, when and where? We’ve got the ‘how’ part covered in our blog post ‘How To Plan the Perfect Engagement’ but today we’re back to help you with the ‘where’ by sharing some of our top destinations!

Juliet’s Balcony, Verona, Italy

We must start off with possibly the most romantic of locations with none other than Juliet’s Balcony and the site of the greatest love story ever told. Perhaps a little cliché but certainly cliché for a reason.

If you’re other half loves nothing more than snow and the festive season, then Lapland is the place for your proposal! With the option to stay in an igloo and sleep under the Northern Lights…oh and did we mention a sleigh ride with reindeer pulling you through a snow-covered forest whilst tucked under a blanket? The proposal opportunities are endless!

Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria, Germany

If your other half loves fairytales then there is nowhere more magical than Neuschwanstein Castle. Chosen by Walt Disney as the inspiration for the castle in Sleeping Beauty, you’ll both be blown away by this 19th century Romanesque Revival palace. Set on a hilltop overlooking a village below, Neuschwanstein looks equally as beautiful during the peaks of Summer or Winter, covered in a sheet of snow.

Another popular destination for proposals and for good reason is the city of love, Paris. A popular spot of course is the Eiffel Tower but a close second and our favourite is Pont Neuf, an ancient bridge in the city of light. Standing since 1578, the Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge on the Seine and looks spectacular at sunset when the surrounding buildings are filled with golden light.

New York

Winter is one of the most popular times to visit New York and for good reason. Take your pick of locations for outdoor ice skating and soak in the views from the 86th Floor of the Empire State Building and Top of The Rock at the Rockefeller Center. If you’d like a quiet location to propose, head to Central Park. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a blanket of snow and the most romantic of settings. You’ll even be able to squeeze in some Christmas shopping whilst you’re there!

Santorini, Greece

If your other half isn’t a fan of cooler climates, Santorini is the perfect destination. Known for its idyllic location with hotels nestled amongst clifftop hills with traditional blue topped churches and quintessentially Greek white house’s…choose your spot as the sunsets over the turquoise Aegean Sea.

Ashford Castle, Cong, Ireland

For Downton Abbey fans, Ashford Castle is where you want to be. You’ll spend a minimum of £200 per night but we guarantee it’ll be worth it! In addition to staying in the lavish surroundings you’ll be able to partake in some other medieval fantasies such as horseback rides on the property as well as cruises on the lake!

Let’s not forget what we have right at our fingertips…Edinburgh! The beautifully preserved Old Town is sure to bring out the romantic in you! During the festive season, Edinburgh is particularly beautiful. Why not stop by the Christmas market for some festive cheer and ice skating then take a stroll around the Old Town, you’ll have your pick of romantic spots to pop the question! If you’re looking to make a dinner reservation to celebrate, check out The Dome – a hot spot during the festive season and only a 5-minute stroll from Waverly train station in the New Town.

If you’re a hopeless romantic, then Venice is the place for you. Catch a gondola ride and soak in the beauty of the city before getting down on one knee…just don’t drop the ring! If gondola rides aren’t for you, the great thing about Venice is that there are so many ‘hidden spots’ offering great views and perfect for dropping to one knee without the worry of passers-by ruining the moment!

There are so many beautiful spots in Switzerland we couldn’t choose one! If you and your partner enjoy the great outdoors, then hop on a plane to Switzerland and have your skis at the ready! Even if you’re new to winter sports, there are plenty of places that offer lessons so now is the perfect opportunity to try something new and afterwards find the perfect place to pop the question! The surroundings couldn’t be any more picturesque and who could say no to a proposal in the Alps?

And that’s our top 10 places to get engaged this Winter! We hope it’s inspired you and helped you choose the perfect destination for your proposal.
